Founder Dart's Great and Eagerly Anticipated 2006 Review
Started 2006 in Llandaff North signing Vanilla Ice at kareoke, not much else happened in January except I went to Dinas Powys to see my great mate Dave Lev before he went off on a two year tour of duty around the penal collonies of New Zealand. Went to see Wales beat Scotland in Mike Ruddock's last game in charge in the six nations, proved to be our only victory of the campaign - I was also there for the draw against Italy but I don't really want to talk about that. Was getting increasingly stressed at work during this period as my rubbish assistant was really strecthing the boundaries of rubbish to the extreme but things perked up in March when she had a tantrum and left, never to be seen again (hopefully). It was also around this time that we found out who would be replacing the sabbs in work, which was interesting. With Stace's stag do fast approaching (and now finally organised), Jimmy decided that he did want a best man after all and asked me. Stace and I went to his stag do in legoland and henley and it was marvellous. The highlight for me was making the self-proclaimed 'worlds' best drinker' sick within 20 mins of drinking games, closely followed by the fire engine race of course. After jimmy's stag came jimmy's wedding and that was another marvellous weekend, speech went well (thank god) and everyone was happy, including sionedwyn who seemed to be a lot more relaxed about me being stace's best man after seeing me in action! Got battered and danced like a knob, but still woke up in time for 7.30 so that i could watch the FA cup final highlights and see Liverpool's remarkable come back and victory. Legged it from the after wedding party in time to meet stace and sions on the m4 on the way home, and go and see the blues beat leinster in the millennium stadium. Two weeks of recuperation followed before the trip to Bath for stace's stag. Saturday was the big night so sadler and i (as usual) got absolutely battered on the friday. Stace was sick within 20 minutes and I think just about managed the weekend without bursting into tears. other stag highlights were the challenge based game, dave's porn, dave's costume, the raven beer, the comedy greasy cafe and mat's moaning about the lack of women. Excellent. June sucked cos loads of my friends left work never to return. July saw me dumped and en route to essex until a change of heart and a roundabout changed it all in time for me to go on holiday with lau for the first ever time. Tenby was the destination, slap bang in the middle of the heatwave. we camped and it was awesome, if a little hot. I won the air hockey championship - wahoo! Then onwards to my 27th birthday and Dave and Sions' wedding which, aside from a mental registrar, went superbly. My speech was, of course, a highlight. Naturally I then got absolutely battered and suffered for it the next day, highlighted by the fact i tried to use a handtowel to dry myself after a shower. excellent. Around this time i was also promoted at work and i am a now a manager, though not with any extra money - goddamnit. In september I finally did some of the work i was supposed to do over the summer and i also ran a conference seminar at the uk national careers service meeting thing. Yeah don't ask me what the fuck that was about cos I really don't know. I also went down to essex at this point and hannah was sick over herself and wiped her hands on my car. October was mental with the students coming back and all and i seemed to be in work constantly. I also got given free car number two when my parents upgraded and i was able to sell the nissan (hannah's sick and all), I now drive an astra. With November came the end of my career development loan and the decision to move to bristol during the working week. By december I had found a lodging and its great, so loads less M4 action for me from now on. I also decided to apply to be a Hall warden but i didn't get it after interview, shame but no real loss. Took the decision not to play rugby again this season and have retired from all forms of the game (unless we play 7s in 2007) with immediate effect. I may plan a comeback in August 2007. Attended the great essex christmas meal for the first time and got battered, much fun was had by all. Also got battered in front of Lau's dad when the blues beat the ospreys just before christmas but fortunately he doesn't seem to hold it against me. Spent christmas in cardiff and swansea and saw in the new year with dave and sions after an amazing chinese meal and some quality quiz based games. Roll on 2007.
